Gedichtendag

Ik had drie beestjes,
drie beestjes van steen.
Een vogeltje,
Een veulentje
Een varkentje.

Ze zijn gevallen.
Ze braken stuk.
Ik heb ze gelijmd.
‘t is bijna gelukt.

Ik heb drie beestjes,
drie beestjes van steen.
Een volentje,
Een veukentje,
Een vargeltje.

Mysteries

Not wanting to sound like the doting fiancee too often (*giggle* fiancee! How weird is that), but the Girlfriend truly is the best. She is. Yesterday she went to the supermarket to buy me my favourite nibbles for my birthday party (her proud face when she said "look, I bought one of those sausages you like" knowing full well I'd have told her not to bother), she insisted on making delicious cheesecake brownies (deeeeeeeee-licious. In all fairness I mixed the cheesecake. Under supervision, of course), and today.... today she accompanied me to the horror that is family.

I'm wondering at what point "enough" really is "enough" when it comes to dealing with family. I've always been quite strict in this, thinking that "no matter what, they're still family". But even when they give you nightmares two nights before you're due to go? Even if they leave you angry and sad and "force" you to go for a run afterwards? I don't know.

Entropa

I know I'm a bit late with this, but I find it quite hilarious:

"A new art project commissioned by Prague in honor of its six-month stint at the head of the 27-member bloc has caused the Czechs to blush with embarrassment. Called "Entropa," the piece is a €373,000 over-sized mosaic map of Europe that relies on stereotypes to depict each country. And a number of countries are furious about it."

Be sure to check out the photo gallery. Some of these pieces are actually well thought out and funny. Poland, for instance. Wonder what he made of Belgium?

This last paragraph is fantastic: "Responses from Great Britain, Cerny reports, have likewise been quite positive. The historically euro-skeptic country was left off the sculpture altogether."

Spoiled

The Girlfriend is treating me to scampi, shrimp and pancakes tonight.
For no particular reason.

Hola

First working day of the year (first working day in a "for real unlimited" contract) was a very intense one. It left me with a headache, sleepiness and general feeling of "WTF".

I mean, apart from trying to figure out my new caseload (and what a doozie it is, if I hear one more person say "I know it's not the best case to get, but I have to give this one because it's in your region" I'll slap them), there was news of a a death (RIP Mrs D) and I had to smooch my colleagues. Practically all of them. For the "new year". EAK!

Oh. And by the way, it's cold.
